I am a working artist and creative facilitator dedicated to cultivating expression, growth, and discovery across diverse communities. I design and deliver projects and workshops for children, young people, and adults, positioning creativity as a powerful platform for personal development. Working with the Education Team at Rugby Art Gallery, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to connect with a richly diverse cross-section of the community, embracing all ages, demographic, social, and cultural background.

My personal artistic practice is interdisciplinary, involving both hand and digital sketching, stitch, and collage.  Drawing serves as the essential language for any of my project developments in all of the media I choose to work with.

I am currently investigating th e capacity of stitch as a drawing medium, using it as a direct equivalent to a pen or pencil. Some of my work is presented on perforated piano rolls, where the inherent structure of the roll informs the rhythm of the stitch. This method transforms the canvas into a visual and thematic panorama, which orchestrates a journey for the viewer.

The inspiration for my work is drawn from a broad spectrum of subjects, including landscapes, urban architecture, world travel, and the micro-environment of my allotment in Birmingham.

 

‘Bus Drawings’ was inspired by journeys on public transport around Birmingham, which is the second largest city in the U.K.

For many years travelling by bus has just been a regular part of my life which has fed my interest of observing how people hold themselves and form their personas —stance, dress, accessories etc. I capture each moment with a quick pencil sketch and then work on them digitally later.
